Black man with the white face

What set the BBC's World Cup coverage apart from ITV was the excellent short documentaries they showed in relation to the host nation, including the history of the Spion Kop.

But the one that blew me away was the story of Sir Stanley Matthews, who it turns out was a regular visitor to South Africa for 25 years after the English season ended, where he spent his time coaching local footballers.

It is a truly inspiring story, and one I had not heard before. At the time of writing the film is still on the BBC website and well worth 5 minutes of your time.

A good example of what makes the BBC unique and something to cherish.
